DREAM HOLIDAY!!! 190110

Everyone has their own dream holiday that they want to pursue. Some want to find closure and relaxation in their holiday. Others want an adventure and excitement. My dream holiday is somewhat different from others. I can say that my dream holiday is mixed with my passion about bikes and excitement about the holiday. Back in my ITE days, my friends influenced me in motorbikes. That got us talking about F1 racing as well as Motogp, legal races among bikers on tracks on different countries. There are a total of 18 races among them splitting into 2-3 weeks in between them, which means I get to travel to 13 different countries in all as some of the races are taking place in different parts of the country. The countries are as follows, Qatar, Japan, Spain, France, Italy, England, Netherlands, Germany, U.S, Hungary, Malaysia, Australia and Portugal.







This provides me the time not only to see MotoGP, but also to go sight-seeing in the following countries. It will give me the feeling of different ambience and beautiful nostalgic surroundings of their countries. From the Colosseum in Rome and San Peter’s Basilica with the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican in Italy, to the Eiffel Tower in France, London Bridge and Buckingham Palace in England, to the Roman Temple of Diana in Portugal and to the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia just to name a few.

Activity 2 (Blog Reflections)

Briefly reflect on lessons learnt from this practical:

a. Which criteria did you use to evaluate Stomp.com? Why did you choose this criteria? What lessons have you learnt from this activity?
Sharing of thoughts. Its a website where netizens can upload real live stories that are happenng around Singapore. It also allows people to voice out their opinions through comments. I learnt that we need to comment responsibly as it could literally spark off debates that can go on and even spot a trend whereby users scold vulgarities towards opposite beliefs.


b. How do you feel about sharing your views via Wiki?
Its a vast cross-reference among the students particularly as this helps to share and exchange ideas online.The students are constantly exchanging ideas and this helps to widen their prospective of the topic.

1. Do you think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject directories? Why?
It depends on the user at the end of the day. For me, if compared to meta-search and invisible web, I choose meta-search as it has been able to give me the search queries that I needed. It will come down to the service support that it gives towards the user, finding the right materials for the user's chosen topics.

2. Will you use the invisible web (databases) for research in your own respective Diplomas? Why?
No, mainly because it doesn't give me the relevant search queries that I am seeking for. The level of relevancy to each word is key but the topics that were able to find from the invisible web was irrelevant.

3. What have you learnt from your wiki experience during this practical? I learnt that there are many more search engines other than google and yahoo, and the other online search engine could provide other means and ways to help the user find and gather the information needed.

Activity 2 – Individual Blog Activity
1. How do you feel about posting your views on the topic posted on OLE Online Discussion Forum? Can you express your views freely?

It depends as long the language use is not vulgar and offensive. Our views need to have some balance between agreeing and disagreeing. We can improve by commenting our views to other users politely.

2. How does this online discussion experience compared with traditional face-to-face in-class discussions?

It certainly feels different as we are not interacting with each other, but ultimately, we can also share our views be it face to face or online discussion.

3. Do you find this online activity meaningful? Why?

Yes, we can search for online resources as well as interact with other users at the same time.

EIR 5th lessons on practical 4 & 5, we learnt new internet research facilities which is Meta search engines and other subject directories.

Meta Search Engines also known as metacrawlers or multi-search engines. It searches key words simultaneously to several search engines such as yahoo and google as they do not have their own database of web pages.It eliminates and comes up with the prominent key words as well as the larger number of potentially higher quality references.

Subjects directories, also known as subject catalogs.It searches in topical lists arranged in a hierarchical way. It tells the user the key words and availability of the potential website.I feel metacrawlers are much more useful than search directories as more relevant websites to help me with my search queries.

Using wiki is useful as we can exchange views and learn something new with different ideas and views. I feel that through wiki's, it can develop and widen our thinking with useful ideas that are being exchanged.

4th lesson..

On 101109,Miss Farida taught us the features on google and google scholar. Both search engines are tools for doing research on topics that the user intends to search for. Both search tools provide the same search functions with a little difference. For google,it search tool is more of general information of the key word that is typed. For google scholar,it cross reference the key word with information on books,citations as well as articles. At the end of the day,it depenes on the user's choice to choose the search tool that is more productive and informative. I am impressed with google and its search functions,very user friendly to do our research with tons of valid result. I have just started discussion forums,it could really help with people's views on the topic. Citations are important so that to prove we do not copy other people's research and finding and also to acknowledge them.
